Flamingo Pillow Love

This pillow started as needlepoint to keep me busy doing a minor foot surgery.  I had planned on making it a farmers market bag but it seemed to unbalanced to me.  I discovered the idea on Material Obsessions website.  When I decided it would not work I opted out for a pillow.  I found a picture of flamingo and traced it onto the backing and the rest is history.  It is really hard to put this down once you start!

The actual needle point.

Pillow Love

This is the happy owner of all the pillows.  I thinks she is happy.
The task was to take approximately fifteen pajamas, bathrobes and wedding dresses of my girlfriend's mother and make them into pillows. My friend's mother had just passed away about five months prior to this which makes it even worse.  These pajamas/bathrobes sat for about six months before I had the nerve to put my rotary cutter to them.  Ouch  These tasks become very heart felt and emotional for me.  It is extremely hard to rip a part someones most treasured possessions.  Their bath robes and pajamas.  My mother wore my brothers bath robe until it was almost shredded.  A yellow terry cloth robe I'll never forget.  I think it made her feel close to him.  He was the first born. I'm sure there was some very strong bond there I did not realize.
I used what I could on some of these. The hem was used as the major source of fabric due to them being so old.  Why do we do this?

The first one was made out of the hem of a pair of pajamas. The second two were made out of a wedding dress.

This was made out of a bath robe.
This was made out of some pajamas.  I tired to reinforce them with a design.
A close up of the pillow that was used with them hem of the pajamas then reinforced with extra stitching.
This was a different wedding dress that need some design to perk it up.
This was a fancy out fit that I made into a pillow and used the stitching to reinforce it.
Home sweet home.

Pillow love

The above pillows are waiting for their prospective homes.  Their quilts are in  "quilt land".  They will be joining them soon.  This may be the last time they get to spend time together.  Can you tell which ones are related?

"Char" Pillows

My dear childhood friend Charlene cross stitched the birds and put them into frames. I'm guessing 20 years ago. (I have always had a fetish for birds)  Over the years my tastes have changed and I did not know what to do with the birdies.  Knowing that Charlene made them I knew they would be with me for life as anything home made and heart felt should.  Right? So I made them the center piece of each pillow and they seem to be very happy with their new home. The blue gray quilt seems to be happy too.  I know I am. Thanks Char!

Pillows

I began to look around my house and everything seemed so blah blah blah for summer. So I found some old pillows covered in dull colors and recovered them in these cooler prints which changed the whole look of the room. They seemed to "happy up" our living space. I feel like summer has arrived and I love looking at them. My girlfriend just painted her living room and she is ready to cover her pillows to give them a happy change! It makes me feel good that someone follows my design change. I know pretty hard to believe!

Oh and not to "dog" anyone out. The measurements I received for Hannah's quilt were given to me by the father. He measured the mattress and not the over hang which is what I wanted. Therefore the cool, hip quilt I made ended up only fitting over the top of the bed. A word to the wise do not let your hubby's measure the bed. (Sorry cousin Ricky just had to say it) Back to the drawing board. Whatever...
